Chidi Odinkalu
Professor of Practice in International Human Rights Law and CO-Director of LLM Program
- Chairs the Truth, Justice, and Peace Commission, a transitional justice initiative established to address the crises of violence and agitation in the states of south-east Nigeria.
- He previously chaired Nigeria’s National Human Rights Commission and served on the panel of eminent persons that negotiated the return of The Gambia to the Commonwealth in 2017.
- Odinkalu has acted as counsel in international human rights litigation before Africa’s regional human rights courts and tribunals and was involved in the creation of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights.
Professor of International Law
- Formerly served in the United Nations Executive Office of the Secretary-General and continues to advise the UN as a consultant. His work focuses on international organizations, peace operations, the UN system, and the intersection of international law and international relations.
- Author and editor of several influential books, including The Oxford Handbook on International Organizations (2016), Law and Practice of the United Nations (2016), and Talking International Law: Legal Argumentation Beyond the Courtroom (2021).
- Johnstone has been a visiting professor at NYU, the University of Toronto, and Jindal Global University. He serves on the boards of the Canadian Yearbook of International Law and International Organizations Law Review, and is a member of the International Advisory Board of the International Peace Institute.
- Bustany’s work focuses on international human rights law, minority rights, access to nationality, immigration detention, and legal systems in the Global South and the Middle East.
- She has practiced law at O’Melveny & Myers in New York, represented petitioners before the UN Human Rights Committee, and worked with NGOs and intergovernmental organizations on human rights and development issues.
- She previously taught in the International Human Rights Law Clinic at Boston University and directed the International Legal Practice program at Suffolk University Law School. A Fulbright Fellow in Cairo, she has also taught at the American University of Beirut.
